There were other questions I was going to answer, but amidst the turmoil of the world, this one kind of sucked it out of me. Regardless, I hope it helps. Keep the faith.

I am trying to be as apolitical with this question as I can be. Please be kind in regards to comments or questions about this coffee chat. I am only covering this because I think it might be needed right now, but otherwise, this is it. Please remain civil in regards to comments, questions, or concerns about this post.

I've lost faith in astrology because of the U.S. election. What do I do?

So this question was submitted just the other day - but I figured it was worth covering. There's two implications here for me - one is in predictions and the other has nothing to do with astrology at all. First and foremost, I try my best to keep prediction out of my practice. But many astrologers don't - and many astrology enthusiasts expect a lot out of predictive astrologers. Many astrologers themselves say that an astrologer is only worth their salt if they are accurate at predicting. And I think the basis for which we judge ourselves and the stars is maaaaybbe just a little skewed. Here's the thing:

  • The astrology is never wrong.
  • Sometimes people are.

Just because an interpretation is off does not mean that the astrology is. But I think if the judgement line is how accurate you are in your predictions - that's also not a great mindset to be in. I start many readings with prep work that also involves a little prayer that I can help the client with what they're going through. I don't think we should be judging astrologers for how accurate they are at their predictions, but for how much they can (or at least, try) to help their clients. That's what really matters. And that's all we have at the end of the day - our love for one another.

This second part of this question is about faith. We have faith in people. We have faith in predictions. We have faith in astrology. We have faith in the future. Faith is often described as a complete trust in something. The Oxford Dictionary defines faith as this under section 2b1:

" Firm belief in something for which there is no proof."

Like, look. We know astrology works. That's why we believe it. That's not what I'm taking about. We need to have faith in the future. And not just that, but faith in ourselves. And maybe we don't have faith that everything is going to be okay. Maybe we can't cling to a certain future anymore. But the future was never certain. We just need to rely on our ability to impact the future, through the everyday choices we make. And we need to have faith, not in astrology, not in our government, but in ourselves that we will figure it out when (or if) the time comes.

For now, we do what we can. And that's to spread kindness to the weary, hope to the sorrowful, and love to those who need it most. Keep the faith.

With love,

Abby
